International ARMA promotes “Best Practices” by utilizing The Principles®.  Review The Principles® for implementation in your department’s record keeping practices.  If you would like more information on The Principles®, contact the SIU Records Manager.

Best Practice for disposal of records:  consistent disposal of records is critical. 

Best Practice:  In order to meet legal compliance, all records that have met their life value should be disposed every year.

Best Practice:  The original disposal certificate is maintained within the Records Management department, but the originating department may request a copy.
